Castle on Tap 2: EFtoberfest on the River

September 30, 2017 @ 4:00 pm - 9:00 pm

Join your neighbors for a beer garden at Undine Barge Club’s historic boathouse aka Castle Ringstetten. Kick off autumn with craft beers, live entertainment, and an authentic Bavarian menu that’ll knock your socken off!

Parks, schmarks — in East Falls, we take over CASTLES!

Last year, the first Castle on Tap was all about food & beer. This time around, we’re adding live music & dancing by the riverside to this unique chance to party in a fascinating historical landmark rarely open to the public.

The Castle (c 1875) was designed by famed architect Frank Furness (you may know him from the Academy of the Fine Arts downtown). With his bold, unorthodox aesthetic, this Philly boy is considered the first architect who defined a purely American style.

Outside, Castle Ringstetten has a sweeping porch and a sprawling fenced back yard that spreads from Kelly Drive to Ridge Avenue. Inside, it’s all dark wooden beams, stained glass, and Victorian detail.

And rowing memorabilia! All kinds of old plaques, photos, trophies… there’s even a baby rowing shell hanging from the ceiling. Undine has been here on the Schuylkill for almost 150 years, there are antiques and curiosities at every corner. And pictures with faces and names going way back into Philadelphia history.

Enjoy a peek at the Castle, then spread out under outdoor tents to enjoy a delicious fall menu by Carlsten Haigis, a German caterer from Rottweil who’s bringing the most authentic Bavarian spread this side of Munich! He’ll be baking his famous pretzels on-site, and serving up plates of cheeses, wursts, and homemade breads. MENU & DETAILS HERE.

Live music by The Duke Brothers and East Falls’ own Rawk U, playing all our favorites — including their own spin on the Chicken Dance!

The Duke Brothers are a blues/rock duo who’ve been playing gigs (mostly Philly & NJ) since 2011. Locally, they play often at The Grape Room, where they draw big crowds from all over. See them in action on Facebook, and take a browse through their immense song list to get your head around their awesomeness.

And check out their catalog (it’s from 2014 – it must be 300+ songs now).

Adding even more variety, Daniel Cullen brings a force of strong talents from Rawk U and the neighborhood. His school’s curriculum trains all ages, all instruments, and it’s always a treat to see musicians at the top of their game (we share some of his youtube videos on EastFallsLocal.com).

Tickets just $10 ($15 at the door) to rock out on the river in a historic setting with great food & beer.

Every ticket sold gets us one step closer to our roots — our river. A portion of the proceeds from Castle on Tap helps beautify East Falls Riverfront Business District (thanks, Sandy Webberking!) and also supports Carve 4 Cancer, a local charity for a beloved neighbor we lost in 2017.

Thank you for supporting community-building events in Philadelphia neighborhoods!
