June 10th — an East Falls rooftop soiree, featuring the chef of Balboa Supper Club. Live music. Skyline views and starry skies.
Start your summer off with a one-of-a-kind party high above the neighborhood. Chef Alex Garfinkel presents a special menu of small plates and grilled bites, plus sweet and savory treats from select vendors. Chef Alex specializes in fresh, creative dishes with seasonal, locally-sourced ingredients: fresh, vibrant food for modern palates.
Vegan/vegetarian bites by chef Craig Wilson of Milo Restaurant (opening soon on Conrad). And of course — dessert! East Falls’ newest sweet spot, The Sugary (on Indian Queen) will offer four inspired cookie options: chocolate marshmallow, triple chocolate espresso, blueberry lemon shortbread and cornmeal lime — with a margarita glaze!
“It’s gonna be awesome!” said Jonathan Kennedy, a key organizer (and EF neighbor) who manages Balboa and writes The Local’s monthly beer column. JK’s also a certified “Cicerone” – like a sommelier for beer — who’s excited to introduce East Falls to his favorite new craft brewery, Love City Brewing. (Read JK’s review of their beers here.)
“Since chef Alex will be pairing his menu with Love City’s beer, both will be included in the ticket price,” he explained. (Wine and specialty cocktails will be available for purchase thru the East Falls Beer Garden.) UPDATE: plus cider from Young American in Germantown (included in the ticket price).
Dancing? You bet! Drew Nugent and the Midnight Society will be bringing their swanky jazz style to the soiree. Don’t forget your dancing shoes.
Parking couldn’t get any easier, too: we’ll be partying on top of the Falls Center’s garage, so you can drop your car for free right there. Then just take the elevator up for sunset panoramas as early evening slips into a beautiful summer night.
Big thanks to The Preston at Falls Center for providing such a great venue! They’ll be showing off recent renovations to former dorms in the former hospital building. They’re creating a luxury rental community, including some impressive amenities: dog park, bike shop, spa, theater (!) and an entirely revamped patio with fire pits, bocce court, and more. FUN FACT: Their name comes from Ann Preston, the founding dean of the Women’s Medical College that was established here — the first in the world!
Did we mention the view? So amazing! You can see the river, rooftops, steeples, Laurel Hill, and the Philly skyline from Market Street’s shiny new skyscrapers to Billy Penn at City Hall. With fine food, live music, and craft beer, too — here’s the area’s most unique and exciting event all year. Dress up and kick back with friends and neighbors for just $60 pp ($110 per couple).
VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES! Comp tix and other perks available, email editor@EastFallsLocal.com for fun, easy ways to lend a hand.
