Lovin’ on McMichael

A favorite local greenspace shines for Friends and neighbors.

Though usually known for quiet zen, McMichael Park got its groove on May 12 with a special “Love Your Park” celebration. Thirty volunteers (and two babies) came out for a full day of fun, including pet adoptions, Music with Gina, and a children’s story hour with long-time neighbor (and former Mayor & Governor) Ed Rendell. State Rep Pam Delissio and Congressman Dwight Evans even stopped by to show support for our open green space.

Tree plantings and clean up, too, of course – all the better to work up an appetite for some Little Baby’s Ice Cream, who came out along with Royal Zarasa’s serious comfort food. “Their chicken and waffles and their salmon slaw sandwiches were the bomb!” said Christina Kistler, Midvale neighbor and longtime Friend of McMichael.

Big cheers for this urban oasis in the heart of East Falls! Follow Friends of McMichael on Facebook for information on events and cleanups planned throughout the year – including Falls Flea, coming up Saturday June 9th! This event always brings a great crowd, with dozens of vendors, plus beer garden, food trucks, and more.

Summer Reading! McMichael story hours start June 4th thru the Falls of Schuylkill Library. Meet 6:30pm at the Turtle statue every first Monday for a special evening storytime. Wear your jammies, bring a favorite toy, and a blanket to kick back on. Snacks provided by Friends of McMichael. (Ages 2 to 6, siblings welcome).
