Local restaurants and caterers put their best bites forward for Miami Days. Enjoy a mini-food fest of small plates ($5 and under) from noon till 4pm at Alden Park Apartments. Is that a cider tasting?

Miami Nights will delight with Marvin Graaf’s authentic Cuban menu — paired with tropical drinks and beer! — but Miami Days will tickle your tastebuds with local flavor. We’re psyched to present this exciting mix of local chefs showcasing their favorite dishes, plus a lovely way to wrap a historical tour:

If you start literally screaming for this ice cream we wouldn’t blame you. Tropical Homemade Ice Cream hails from West Chester, but when we saw ABC News’s story on these exotic tropical flavor combinations, we had to have them for Miami!

They’re a small business with big cajones to ask us to put chili powder on our ice cream — but try it! “It’s a shot of heat, salt, and lime,” explained owner Tony Nieves, “You won’t believe how it lights up fruit flavors.” He also swears by it on their famous rice pudding ice cream.

He’s bringing a great variety for Miami Days: avocado, tamarind, guava… corn! Such a popular flavor, Tony makes three varieties: plain, blueberry, and coconut. Pass the chili!

PLUS — CIDER TASTING, BOOK SIGNING, MORE:

Eat up and enjoy the sunshine by Alden Park’s brand-new outdoor wading pool. Check out the classic cars from Roxborough Ridge Runners in the parking lot. And make sure you save time to tour the magnificent towers to fully appreciate the history and grandeur here.

Tours wrap in Kennilworth’s cozy lobby, where local historian Joseph Minardi will be on-hand to answer questions and sign copies of his latest book, Historic Architecture in Philadelphia: East Falls, Manayunk & Roxborough. Pick up a copy at a special discounted price for guests & residents attending Miami Days & Nights.

And try some local cider! Young American Cider is an emerging Germantown business producing fresh organic apple juice from nearby orchards in Pennsylvania. After harvesting, ciders are aged for several months to create a wide range of flavor combinations including Ginger, Tart Cherry, and Bourbon Barrel Aged. Free info and tastings!

AND… ART EXPO? Exciting developments, people. A local collector is pulling paintings for a “Friends of Barnes” exhibit — art by students and contemporaries of Albert C. Barnes. With less than a week till the party, though, we’re waiting till it’s up to promote it. Stay tuned… and make sure you leave time to tour more than just the food at Miami Days!

FREE ADMISSION! RSVP NOW to jump the line to all the fun, starting at noon. VOLUNTEERS NEEDED — early entry, gift cards, free refreshments, and more! We need help with check-in (11am – 1pm/5pm – 7pm) especially. Lend a hand for an hour or two and enjoy the party as an “insider.” Email us now for more information.
