Meredith Johnson takes over as Executive Director
Good news at the East Falls Development Corporation! After an exhaustive search, they have named Meredith Johnson their new Executive Director. She will assume her post on April 1st.
Johnson, who owns a house in Germantown, worked this past summer under Alex Balloon, Executive Director of the Tacony Community Development Corporation. She was instrumental in obtaining the organization’s first self-funded grant to assist local businesses with capital improvements.
She also obtained a Corridor Enhancement Grant from the City of Philadelphia’s Commerce Department to plan and promote a neighborhood-wide Halloween event. Most important of all for our neighborhood, she worked one on one with local business owners to help them find funding and resources that would help them grow and expand their businesses. (As history buffs, our favorite part about her resume is her M.S. in Historic Preservation from the University of Pennsylvania — we could sure use some preservation around here.)
Before moving to Philadelphia, Meredith worked as the City Planner in Buda, a small town outside of Austin, Texas. (MAP LINK) She participated in a variety of initiatives, from development negotiations to community education to city financing. As the city’s only planner, she played a critical role in sensitive development issues, helping to address the concerns of neighbors, developers, and politicians.
Congratulations Meredith and welcome to the Falls! See you around the neighborhood!
