Gtown’s Fringe Fest entry explores teen angst and aspirations in the Digital Age…

Fringe Fest comes to NW Philly this September with a city-wide celebration of innovative, contemporary performance.  Neighbors have a great opportunity to experience live theater in our own backyard. Budget prices, too, in the spirit of art for all!

This year, both East Falls and Germantown neighborhoods are hosting exciting performances for mature audiences.

GERMANTOWN: Shadow Company with Yes! And… Collaborative Arts presents “The Miseducation of Generation Never.”

What’s it like to be a teenager today, with so much information and so many choices at your fingertips, whizzing by at lightning speed?

This summer, the young performers of Shadow Company – the high school theater program of Germantown-based Yes! And… Collaborative Arts – sought to answer that question with an original dramatic piece. Together with the help of Yes! And…’s team of professionals, the students conceived and co-wrote “Miseducation” to convey how they and their peers experience the world through social media.

Such a random and relentless onslaught of information can be daunting for adults — what’s it like for kids?  “They get news of atrocities that are happening around the globe, and then scroll to see funny dance videos, food-eating compilations and friend requests, “ director Natalie Hann explained.

For a 50-minute show, “The Miseducation of Generation Never” is packed with powerful themes: dangers at school, the “cancel culture,” the school-to-prison pipeline, the effect that assumptions can have and more. Performed at Yes! And…’s Germantown campus on West Washington Lane.

Fringe Fest doesn’t always come our way — here’s a a great chance support the Arts and the talented kids who put their hearts and souls into this project. Hello, next generation of humans! We hear you!

We also hear our stomachs grumbling for dinner theater, Fringe Fest-style nextdoor in East Falls. “Destiny is a Careless Waiter”  features three short plays set at Trolley Car Cafe read more here.
