Two Wheels Good: Bike Philly!

Tis the season for free rides, instruction, and equipment for the whole family, kicking off with a party on MLK.

It’s time to get rolling with Philly Bicycle Coalition’s neighborhood bike hubs! Join the fun with the Philly Bicycle Coalition this season! Whether you’re a kid, an adult learning to ride, or someone looking to enjoy group rides, there’s something for everyone.

Bartram’s Garden Bike Hub

From May 11th through October 26th, the Bartram’s Garden Bike Hub is open every Saturday. Enjoy free bike rentals and Learn to Ride classes for both kids and adults, along with beginner group rides. After a successful season last year, the Bicycle Coalition aims to introduce over 300 new cyclists to the joys of biking at Bartram’s Garden.

For the little ones (ages 2-8), we offer balance bikes and set up a fun course each week to help them master the skill of balancing, the first step to learning how to ride. Bring your kids to try it out!

Adults can bring friends or family for a free bike rental and explore the beautiful trails at Bartram’s Garden. For more information on programming from April to November, check out the Bartram’s Garden Events Calendar.

Lil’ Philly Safety Village

Located in Hunting Park, the Lil’ Philly Safety Village is a vibrant and safe space where kids and adults can practice biking, rolling, and walking without the worry of motor vehicle traffic. The area is equipped with mini bike lanes, crosswalks, stop signs, and other traffic markers to help everyone learn how to navigate urban streets safely. Kids (12 and under) can also test their new skills on the park’s sidewalks and street loops.

The Bike Hub at Lil’ Philly Safety Village is on the corner of West Hunting Park avenue and West Cayuga Street; it’s open whenever Hunting Park is open. Bring your own bike and have fun! Additionally, the Bicycle Coalition offers free “Learn to Ride” classes for kids from 10 AM to 12 PM on the following dates:

Saturday, June 15 (REGISTER HERE)
Saturday, July 13 (REGISTER HERE)

🚲🥳🎉 Get ready to pedal and party!🎉🥳🚲
SUNDAY, JUNE 9th
10AM – 2PM
MLK Drive at the Falls Bridge

Join friends and neighbors across the city for a cycling good time on MLK Drive with the Bicycle Coalition of Greater Philadelphia and the Bicycle Club of Philadelphia.

Why MLK Drive? 🚲🛹🛼🌞🌳

Every weekend, the City of Philadelphia transforms MLK Drive into a level, shaded, car-free paradise from the Falls Bridge to Sweetbriar Drive. From Saturdays at 7AM to Mondays at 7AM this scenic route is exclusively for cyclists, walkers, and outdoor enthusiasts. It’s the perfect opportunity to enjoy the great outdoors on a wide open road without the hustle and bustle of traffic.

If you want, though, you can beeline* down to the city and reach the Art Museum in 15 – 20 minutes of easy pedaling, where a whole network of bike paths can open up a whole day of exploration. May we suggest our self-guided bike tour of Spring Arts? PRO TIP: Grab an Indego e-Bike at one of their stations in East Falls for a truly stress-free travels.

Start your ride with a party and set off on a city adventure — or stop by and unwind after your morning circuit. Or just bring a picnic with the family, and have fun circling around your spot along the river. Wherever you are, MLK Drive is the place to be on June 9th (and every weekend this summer)! Enjoy one of the city’s largest car-free spaces and make some great memories. Don’t miss out on these good times in motion. 🙌🚲💖

Hooray for this local, warm-weather tradition! It’s not every day that the people of a city manage to take back a key roadway so fully and regularly. Come celebrate with other bike lovers of all levels, along with the Bicycle Coalition/Bicycle Club of Philly and their amazing partners: Clean Air Council, Fairmount Park Conservancy, Philly Bike Action, Agile Rascal Bicycle Touring Theatre, and Kayuh Bicycles and Cafe.

  • ⚠️The MLK Drive bridge is undergoing a $20.1 million rehab project (part of the infrastructure bill), and is currently closed to all vehicular and pedestrian traffic. You can download the city’s detour map here (there are day and night versions). Construction is slated to be completed by spring 2025. Until then, the easiest route downtown from East Falls/Manayunk is the bike path on Kelly Drive, which runs parallel to MLK on the other side of the Schuylkill River.

The Bicycle Coalition of Greater Philadelphia is committed to making our region more bike-friendly through various programs and resources. Find out more at bicyclecoalition.org, and @bicyclecoalition.
